Gold Mining Stocks News

An Endeavour Mining plc (LSE: EDV) (TSX: EDV) (OTC: EDVMF) contractor unfortunately died yesterday after sustained injuries from an incident that occurred during routine blasting activities at the company’s Ity mine site in Côte d’Ivoire. While the United States mining industry has done a good job of reducing mining-related fatalities over recent years, the mining industry as a whole is still plagued by work-related deaths.

“The health, safety and welfare of our colleagues are our top priority and we are deeply saddened by this news. We extend our sincere sympathies and support to his family, colleagues and friends,” commented Endeavour Mining plc in a recent statement.

As a member of the World Gold Council, Endeavour is committed to the highest principles of responsible mining and to delivering sustainable value to its employees, stakeholders and the communities where it operates. Endeavour Mining will be conducting a comprehensive internal investigation into the incident and will work closely with the relevant local authorities in Côte d’Ivoire. Processing activities continued while mining operations were temporarily halted on site, and all operations have now resumed.

Endeavour Mining plc is one of the globe’s leading gold producers and the largest in West Africa, with operating assets across Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso and a strong portfolio of advanced development projects and exploration assets in the highly prospective Birimian Greenstone Belt across West Africa.
